Woman Sentenced For Killing Woman In Fight Over Beer
McDonald Sentenced To 15 To 30 Years In Prison

Maureen McDonald was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Police said McDonald stabbed Jennifer Correa, 31, several times when they fought in March 2006 at a house party in Tamworth.

Prosecutors said McDonald was highly intoxicated when she killed Correa in an argument over beer.

Correa's 11-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were not in court Thursday, but they prepared statements for the prosecutor to read to the judge.

"I think about how you would feel being 13 years old and not having a mother," her daughter wrote. "The only reason why I am not at court right now is because I probably couldn't handle seeing your evil, wicked self."

Correa's mother, Renee McClelland, was there to face her daughter's killer and told the judge how much the family has suffered since the stabbing.

"I will feel the emptiness and ache in my heart at her loss every day for the rest of my life on this earth," McClelland said.

McDonald could be heard sobbing throughout the hearing.

"Obviously, nothing will bring Jennifer Correa back to her friends and family," Assistant Attorney General Karen Huntress said. "However, the family is grateful she has taken responsibility, and they finally have closure."

McDonald was facing an additional charge of criminal threatening. Police said the threatened to kill another woman while out on bail on the murder charge. Prosecutors said the threatening charge will be dismissed pending a year of good behavior at the New Hampshire State Prison.
